The brief we set ourselves

Larkspur is a fictional one-person pottery. Each piece is handmade, so each is unique and often a single item. She sells through a marketplace that treats every bowl like a commodity. The goal we set: a shop where each piece is shown as an individual object, and a mark and palette that look at home on a screen and on the bottom of a mug.

Three decisions

  1. DECISION / STRUCTURE

Every product page is a one-off

Pieces with a quantity of one are labelled as such. When it sells, the page says so and suggests similar work.

  2. DECISION / CONTENT

    Size and weight come first

Buyers worry about scale. We would put dimensions and a hand-for-scale photograph before the story.

  3. DECISION / INTERFACE

A mark that survives being stamped

The mark is a simple shape that works debossed in clay and at 16 pixels in a tab.

What we would make

  • A shop with product, collection and cart templates
  • Logo, one-colour and reversed versions, palette and type
  • Packaging and social templates for the web kit
  • A short guide for photographing and listing new pieces

What it would take

FRAME / MORE WORK

More concept work

Self-initiated concepts for fictional businesses.

  • A phone frame showing a bird-logging screen with a species list, beside a browser frame showing the app launch page.
