The brief we set ourselves

Hearth & Hollow is a made-up neighbourhood bakery with an old site, a paper order book and a Saturday queue. The goal we set: let people see what is baking today, pre-order before they leave the house, and pick up without calling. The brief assumes a small catalogue, a daily bake that changes, and customers who mostly order from a phone.

Three decisions

  1. DECISION / STRUCTURE

    Lead with today's bake

The home page opens with what is available now, not the founder's story. A visitor sees bread and a way to reserve it within one scroll.

  2. DECISION / CONTENT

Pre-orders that close at a stated time

Each item shows how many are left and the cut-off for tomorrow's bake. We would write it plainly so nobody is surprised at the counter.

  3. DECISION / INTERFACE

    One thumb, one hand

Pick-up time and quantity sit within reach on a phone. The checkout asks for a name and a number, nothing else.

What we would make

  • A redesigned home, menu, pre-order, about, visit and contact pages
  • Product page and cart layouts for a daily-changing menu
  • A pre-order cut-off pattern, shown in a prototype
  • Mobile-first styling and a short editing guide

What it would take
